What a brilliant resource and some superb pictures. I spent a happy few hours at Geevor a couple of months ago, and a shorter time and Pendeen – I’m from the east Dartmoor area, the edge of hard rock mining, although less tin here and got interested in this 12 years ago when I bought a house with a shaft ‘somewhere’ nearby.

    Thanks for the great site.

    • I am so glad you enjoyed the site, thanks for your feedback

Dartymoor… I’m very interested in the East side of Dartmoor, especially the Teign Valley, where I’ve been doing a little research and engine-house photography within the last year. Do you have any information that you would like to share? If so, I’d be pleased to hear from you. Tin Miner

Hi just found this site,,,brilliant brought back some fond memories of one the best jobs and bunch of blokes I have ever had the pleasure to work with,,The underground worker (Miners) are a special breed of men, without a doubt…in respect of one of your photo’s on South Crofty Mine Underground 5…The Photo on the croust seat,,,on the right hand side from Graham Thomas in 4th in on the right next to Dave Laity, holding what appears to be a bottle of water is I believe one Tiffer Lawry,,,( a legend in his own life time),,,a great shame you didnt get or show any photos of the back bone of the work force underground at Crofty,,,I refer of course to the Artisans,,The Underground Electricians and Fitters,,who against all adversity kept the Mine running and producing Tin,,of which I was one…for five and a half years,,and also a member of the Mines Rescue Team at South Crofty Tin Mine we also covered Wheal Jane,,The Mine was owned and Run by Carnon Consolidated in those days..Brian Calver?.with the Lovely Colin Belshaw as Mine Captain, Andy Lewis? Kevin ???? sorry names escape me now…Tin price crash, redundancy we went through it all at the time…Good days though….well done Paul (Digger) Barnes.

  4. As an old WJ’er its great to see all the old photos of the place as well as all the other old Cornish mines and locations. Keep up the good work. I think the Kevin???? was Ross – met him in Perth Australia a few years back while he was involved with a new lead mine.
